School Information
The Rashtriya Ekatmata Vikas Karyasangha, Shahupuri, Satara, manages Shahupuri Madhyamik Vidyalaya. At present, the school does not own its own land. However, for this educational project a local housing society has permanently leased a 100 X 50-feet plot for as long as the school operates.
On this site, the school has built two rooms measuring 15 × 16 feet and five classrooms measuring 20 × 24 feet, using a load-bearing structure and a metal roof. Through a government funded program, a full computer lab with 12 computers has been installed. The housing society has also provided a playground for students. Separate bathrooms and toilets for boys and girls have been added.
To help needy students commute, a community-supported “Cycle Bank” supplies bicycles. For safe drinking water, an Auro water purification system has been installed with public support.
Because the current building is still too small, the school has rented an additional six-room facility nearby, which includes a storeroom and a science laboratory. Even so, the space remains inadequate for the school’s plans. There is still a need for a modern computer-training center, dedicated science and math labs, an auditorium for events, a gymnasium, and a separate library building.
The institution’s long-term goal is to construct a fully equipped, independent school building that meets these needs. Alumni continue to support the effort by funding painting, renovations, and essential supplies.
Institutional Activities
Each school day at Shahupuri Secondary School begins with the National Anthem, the National Pledge, a reading from the Constitution, the Maharashtra State Song, and the devotional hymn Pasaydan. At day’s end, students close with Vande Mataram.
The daily schedule is one hour longer than government requirements, giving teachers extra time to guide students in difficult subjects and to tutor those who need additional help—even visiting their homes when necessary.
Classes are offered in both Marathi (the mother tongue) and a semi-English medium. School hours are Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 11:50 a.m.
To foster holistic development, a weekly Values Class is held every Saturday. In these sessions, students practice breathing exercises and meditation, honor parents and nature, and learn about state, national, and international events. They discuss current social issues—good and bad—developing the ability to form thoughtful opinions.
Students are introduced to the lives of renowned poets, writers, leaders, revolutionaries, athletes, and artists, and are encouraged to keep their homes and surroundings clean, help with household chores, conserve water, electricity, and fuel, and create home gardens with recycled water. They receive guidance on living with social responsibility and putting the nation first.
Hands-on activities include crafting useful items from waste materials, making paper and clay objects, learning about farming directly in the fields, and visiting local industries to observe operations. Through these experiences, they are taught to use their education for the uplift of widows, transgender people, and other marginalized communities. They also care for animals and birds by providing food and water.
Environmental stewardship is emphasized through lessons on eliminating plastic, planting and nurturing trees, and preventing air, water, and noise pollution while understanding their health impacts.
The school has created a Library Friends Circle, establishing small libraries in each of the six classrooms in addition to the main library. Every Saturday, students spend an hour reading and then share written reflections on the books.
Sports receive equal attention: two physical-education teachers train students in individual and team games. Pupils have competed successfully at district, taluka, and state levels. To safeguard health, every child receives an annual government health checkup, and guest lectures are organized on wellness topics. Special sessions with female doctors provide guidance on girls’ health issues and promote awareness.
